Why should you blog?
This is a common question we are asked, usually in the course of a conversation relating to a client’s website visibility, we are asked what the reasoning behind our advice to blog is. What is the relevance of a blog, why do you need to have one and what difference is it going to make?
It isn’t all about endless writing
It is a common misconception that bloggers are people that sit at home all day churning out content day in day out – and yes some people do blog for a living. But as you’ll probably know, having a full time job, running a company doesn’t exactly leave you much time to be blogging. But you might be pleasantly surprised to hear that don’t have to spend your life writing in order to have a successful blog.
Blogs can be reproduced and recycled and don’t need to be produced every day or even every week, one per month is a good enough level of content output to help support your blogging requirements.
Reasons to blog
There are so many reasons and they are interlinked and intertwined with each other, it all basically boils down to this – getting more people visiting your website more often. These are people who trust your advice and have an affinity with your business that they wouldn’t ordinarily have before they meet you.
1. Building Trust
It is a great way of sharing your knowledge and expertise with your prospective customers. You can become a trusted point of reference. People will seek out your answers and trust your word more when they’ve been given something helpful and free advice from you without any strings attached.
2. Driving Traffic
Each time you add a new blog to your site it increases the size of your website, it increases the number of keywords in your site that relate to each other. It makes you site seem more important, more useful, more helpful and more likely to come up in search results.
3. Improves your SEO
Blogs help your site rise up Google’s rankings, regularly updated content is a big tick in the plus column for Google. They like to see that a site is being added to, blogs are seen as an important metric for making your site more legitimate and more trustworthy. And a well-read blog is even more positive!
4. Build a community
A blog helps you create a community of online fans and followers. The better your blog is, the more interesting, the more shareable and more engaging the more likely that other people will do your marketing for you!
5. Advertise new offers, services and products
A blog is a great way to advertise a new service, new product or something that you’re trying to promote. You can create a “news” article about it, singing its praises or even doing a run-up to a launch, helping you build up some anticipation!
6. Link with social media
You can link your blogs with all manner of social media, this can be done in two main ways. You can give your site visitors the option to share your blogs on their social media, allowing them to spread your good word for you. Or you can publish your blogs then post them on your own social media to allow others to see you.
7. Give your business a personality
Blogging allows you to add a personality and a voice to your business, this helps your potential customers create a perceived relationship with you. This increases their trust in you and is proven to improve their conversion rate.
8. It increases your credibility
Showing that you are knowledgeable about your industry, are happy to share that knowledge and help others without looking for your own rewards really helps your credibility. You can become a recognised go-to for people seeking out info that will help them, they will be more prepared to share it and come back to you again.
You do need to plan blogs, ideally you need to plan what is called a “content strategy” which relates to when you post blogs and what blogs those will be. Again this doesn’t have to be arduous, you don’t need to have a blog a day, you can get away with one a month, no trouble at all – you’ll still be posting more often than most!
Blogging is the rising star of online exposure, you can’t ignore it. But if you’re struggling for time or ideas we can help you with both of these.
