The Importance of a Well-Performing Website
Your website is the modern-day equivalent of the high-street shop window. The Yellow Pages is no more, the internet is here and now it is the medium through which 90% of your customers will first engage with your business. Your website is so important, even your existing long standing loyal customers will look at it from time to time and if it looks terrible they’re going to question the quality of your business.
The beauty of your website is that it can be futured. You can set it ahead of where you currently and you won’t need to revisit it every few months to add in or remove large chunks of content. Your site can be the aspiration of your business. But please remember it shouldn’t say you can do things you obviously can’t. However, you can present yourself as a bigger, more established company than you already are.
Don’t leave your website stranded
Ok, so let’s assume that you’ve had yourself a nice new, modern website designed and developed for you. It’s live and working and you’re pleased as punch with it. Now ask yourself this question; how are people going to find it?
Imagine your website is like a hotel, you’d like people to visit it, come spend some time there and enjoy the place. So, continuing that metaphor, if you were a hotelier and you’d built a fabulous new hotel, would you expect it simply to become fully booked the day after the doors opened?
The answer is of course, no. You’d make sure people could get there, you’d have a car park, a road way to the front gates and staff to look after your visitors. Ok these are all metaphors, all relating to the same basic idea – the marketing and promotion of your website to draw leads into your business.
So how do you make sure your website isn’t on the road to nowhere?
So if you have a nice shiny website then you’re going to want to make sure people can find it. This can be achieved in a number of ways. Modern websites should provide a CMS system allowing you to log in and add content to your site. Ideally a blog would be helpful, blogs allow you exponentially grow the size of your site, continually increasing content and adding new, relevant data to your website.
Social Media also plays a large part, it is necessary for you to not only produce new content on your website, but have a means to distribute that content. This is generally social media. There are a variety of platforms available to you and you may need to do some research into which one best fits your target demographic, but it should be forming part of your marketing mix. Google expects you to have it when it crawls your website to decide its ranking. So even if only for that reason, social media should be something you’re working on.
A website also needs to be mobile responsive, it needs to have targeted and well understood keyword terms and above all, it cannot be left to change or just ignored entirely. There is the necessity to ensure that the investment you have put into your website is going to bring you a return.
