The Brief

Total Lockout are a specialist parts supplier for the automotive industry. One of their fastest growth areas is parts and equipment for electric and hybrid vehicles and they came to us to help them develop a stand alone website for this side of their business. It needed to look similar to their existing website, following their existing branding (with a few tweaks) and the site had to be an e-commerce platform so that their customers could buy from them directly via the website.

They wanted to have a version of their brand with the initials EHV incorporated, EHV standing for Electric & Hybrid Vehicles. This needed to look similar enough to their own brand as to not be confused for someone else and they wanted to maintain the colour used on their main branding too.

The Process

In the first instance we discussed with them the aims and plans for their website, the likely users and the breakdown of their product categories. We went into detail about the range of products they would sell, how these would link and relate to other products and the best way to upsell these. They also had a large market in America too, so they needed the site to be capable of converting the prices to dollars and taking payments in dollars.

They had a new domain name for the site too, so it didn’t need to be built as a sub-domain or sub-section of their exisitng site. We began by putting together a design for the website, this was similar in theme and feel to their existing site, but with its own clear differences and updated to be more modern and more in keeping with the kind of vehicles it was catering to. They also sold training courses and a page needed to be created for these. This didn’t need to take bookings, they were more interested in capturing data of interested parties to follow up on than taking bookings directly via the website.

The Solution

The site was built on an e-commerce platform with a client CMS system log-in area which would give them the access to change products, stock levels, add/remove products and alter prices. It would also give them the access to the rest of the site content. This would give them the freedom to create blogs, add/change images on the site and create their own pages.

We also designed a number of options for an alternative logo for them, eventually they chose to go with a very simple one which was very close to their existing logo. The new website was also given a link through to their main website, making it easy for customers to navigate to their main site should they have found the new one by error or were just interested in further products only found on their main website.

A blog was also added to the site and links to their social media accounts as they were quite keen to work on their own organic rankings with the creation of blogs and content distribution via social media channels.
