The Brief

Flow Control are a local company who sell their products internationally, specialising in the distribution of high quality valves and other water and oil control equipment. They had an existing site when they came to us which was old, outdated and to which they had lost access. As a result it was showing off a poor image of their company and they needed something done.

They wanted a website which would be different, edgy and unique in it’s design, standing them apart from their competitors and showing themselves to be a cut above the rest. In addition to this, it needed to have a log-in area which could be accessed by their staff and partners which would allow them to more easily keep a central update of files and exchange of documents between their branches.

The Process

We began with a discussion on the issues they were facing with their current website and current systems. Understanding these issues allowed us to formulate a solution which would best suit all of their needs, both in terms of the website and the internal system.

We began by designing the initial concepts for the website and the system and after talking the client through it and deciding how their content would be presented though the design we were then able to move onto the build of the website. The system was developed alongside the site, following the same design structure and theme from the website.

Internal System

They required an internal system that would allow them to more effectively and securely file-share throughout their offices. This required a custom-build for us to ensure that it functioned exactly the way they wanted it to.

Differing permission levels and file access restrictions all needed to be put in place. In addition, they needed a control module for their own management of the system, including the adding/removing of users, altering permission levels, removal of old documents and more. To aid in the administration of the system an auto-archive timebomb was built in to automatically archive files after 30 days. Keeping the system clean and tidy without someone having to spend their time to manually archive it.

The Solution

We developed the website with a CMS system to allow the client access to the website back-end as this was something they had lost on their old website. Giving them the ability to access this themselves meant that they would be able to improve their outdated content and start adding new blogs and news articles into the site.

The internal system alongside the site was also developed, this had to allow differing permission levels for different users. It was decided mid-project to provide a client-access area to the system, where their customers could download relevant documentation pertaining to their purchases and product spec. The internal employees of the company needed to be able to access the system to upload documentation and tag it for specific clients to be able to access. It was important that a client wasn’t able to access an area of the system that would allow them to see other clients contracts, pricing or documentation.

We placed their website and system on our high-speed servers, ensuring that their uptime and speed would be as good as possible. File sharing systems can sometimes be dogged with speed issues so it was decided that such a solution would be the best option.
