Cheaper Isn’t Always Better
When it comes to websites it is an industry like no other. They can cost as little as a couple of hundred pounds to hundreds of thousands – and that isn’t an exaggeration. Some websites cost that much to build!
During our day-to-day working we often hear the following phrase: “Well someone told me they had their website done for £50!” or words to that effect.
But take into consideration for a moment what your website really means to your business…
Valuation in 2015
Not so long ago, when not everybody had one, they could afford to be done on the cheap. Just having one was a notch up on your competitors. Nowadays everybody has one, everyone’s mate in his bedroom can make one and therefore the value of them has psychologically decreased.
In real terms, however, the value of a website has increased, precisely because everybody has one, yours needs to be BETTER than your competitors. Better looking, better functioning, easier to find and more socially interactive than your competitors – all that costs more.
What your website is nowadays is the major marketing tool for your business. Over 90% of your customers will look at your website before they contact you. It is where a large majority of your potential customers will find out about you and what you do. You cannot afford to ignore it or cheap-out on it!
Cheaper sites just don’t have the “insides” or the “underbelly” that a properly built, professional website will. SEO (and we’re sorry to keep banging that drum but it isn’t going away) is just not ever going to be as good on a non-professional website. The most clued-up website developers know how to construct a website correctly.
Think of it like a car, if you spend a little more to start with and get yourself a decent car, it’ll start most of the time and will last you quite well. But buy the banger on the roadside for £150 cash in hand, off the man with the string vest and you might find you’re visiting the garage pretty soon!
Therefore, it’s going to cost you more in the long-run and eventually you’ll have to bite the bullet and replace it with something newer. Thus meaning that all the money you spent on it to begin with was a waste.
Cheaper isn’t always better!
