Creating Good Content
In recent months Google’s algorithms moved the SEO goalposts again. This time they’ve decided to strip back what SEO is all about. It wasn’t all that long ago that there were many many factors that would affect your SEO ranking; meta-tags, meta descriptions, image tags, age of your website, visitor numbers, backlinks to name just a few.
However, Google has cottoned onto the fact that people were starting to learn how to manipulate the system, learn the tricks of the trade and in some instances, push irrelevant websites up the search rankings because of the so called black-hat SEO tricks that had gotten them under the radar.
These tricksters are the main reason that Google updates its algorithms as often as it does. Remember that at it’s core Google is trying to do one thing, “return the most relevant results for your search query” . So in order to meet this aim, it has to update it’s algorithms to push out the tricksters who are bringing up irrelevant results.
Having done this a number of times, Google has decided that the only way to really be sure that a site is not manipulating the rankings is to concentrate on the one thing that can’t really be faked – content.
How do you Come Up with Great Content?
It is one of the things that just about every blogger, social media manager, website manager, content writer, journalist and author will tell you is the hardest thing about their job. Coming up with good quality, compelling content.
So how do you do it when even the professionals struggle?
Well, unfortunately there isn’t a secret fix, if we knew one we would be charging a lot of money for it – trust us!
However, all is not lost!
There are many ways that you, yes you, will have more to say on a subject than a so called professional writer will. Why? Because you know your business better than just about anyone. That is why you started your business right? So you could do it your way, because your way is better!
So write about the things you know, remember that you don’t have to be George R. R. Martin to create something interesting enough for someone to read. If you know your stuff, that will show through in your writing. Even more, the fact that you’re not a wordsmith will actually help you. It will give your writing personality and a human voice. Nowadays people look for that and respond to it. They’d rather read something (and take it as written) if it is written like they’d write it, conversationally. It will endear them to you and they’ll pay more attention to what you’re saying – because you don’t sound like every other “marketing expert” out there.
Write honestly and simply on your subject and that will show through. Honestly!
